Cleta
Preparatory Kindergarten

Hi, my name is Cleta and I have more than 17 years of experience and training in early childhood education. I am now the Preparatory Kindergarten teacher here at CHA. Walking into our room on a typical day, you will notice children with many different personalities and happy faces. You will hear voices of children modeling language of respect to one another that in turn is modeled to them by patient, caring and understanding teachers. During curriculum, you will notice confident children busy learning, problem solving and discovering. During free play, you may see busy children having fun and to you it may just look like children just playing. Actually, you are seeing something else—young minds learning.
Our room is filled with centers that encourage the children to challenge themselves, try new things and explore. The centers are set up for endless possibilities of exploration. Art, construction, building, handwriting, sensory and dramatic play are just a few of the areas that you will find providing lots of choices. These age appropriate activities stimulate senses and promote their hands on learning.
I strive to make sure my classroom is a place where children feel safe. The children’s self-esteem, confidence and independence are always the priority. Lots of warmth, attention, enthusiasm and encouragement are always shown to each child. Positive guidance is always used as the guiding philosophy in this classroom. Parent participation & frequent and consistent communication play an important role in the guidance process. I encourage parents to take advantage of our open door policy.
My greatest joy as a teacher is hearing a child say “Teacher, I want to try and do it myself” and knowing that I helped give them the self esteem to even think they can do it and the confidence to try.

Kristin
Preparatory Kindergarten

My name is Kristin. I am 24 years old and I am currently a middle toddler teacher at the Jean Road campus. Throughout my life I’ve grown up knowing that working with children was my calling in life. After high school I decided to attend Clackamas Community College. After two years at a junior college I went to Oregon State University. Go Beavers!! It was here that my passion for working with young children continued to develop. During my two years at Oregon State I had the opportunity to see many different types of school settings. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. In the future I plan on attending graduate school and hopefully one day become the Elementary school teacher Išve always wanted to be.
