Annie
Middle Toddler Teacher
I am an Early Childhood Teacher that works with children ages’ birth to preschool. Patience is a ‘virtue’ and I am long on patience. I have seven years of training and experience in Early Childhood Education. With language exploding at this age, I am directly responsible for teaching the children American Sign Language as well as the staff. I am bi-lingual; American Sign Language is my first language. I have been ‘orally’ deaf since birth. I communicate using ASL and lip reading.
I guide children by using simple signs to express themselves with such words as: please, more, no, thank you, bathroom, hungry, milk, and many more. We also say ‘grace’ before meals through signing. In the classroom are stations for interactive social development, dramatic play, sensory development, construction, quiet play, art, music, and outside activities. These stations allow me the opportunity to observe the children’s development and interest and give me an opportunity to ‘sign’ and speak with them one-on-one. On a typical morning parents drop off their children whom are greeted by me by signing “hello.” They then climb on my lap for a ‘welcome’ hug.
I am a wife and a mother of a five-year-old son who is oral. He attends CHA and is in kindergarten. Outside of school, my hobbies are gardening, photography, camping with my family.
I enjoy my work at The Children’s Hour Academy. The philosophy of the school promotes a community where ‘all’ people grow in love, nurture and education. Watching children sign to each other brings me much joy knowing that I taught them to respect others who are different.
Morgan
Middle Toddler Teacher
Hi, my name is Morgan and I am a teacher in the middle toddler room. I am a recent graduate of Western Oregon University. I graduated June 2005, with a Bachelor of Science in Health Education and a minor in psychology. I have a strong love for working with children and have been working with children for the past six years. While attending college I worked at the Monmouth Montessori School and Salem Child Development Center, I enjoyed both very much. I love early childhood education because at this age children are so innocent. Their only needs consist of the necessities of life, the things most important. The most important thing to me is family. My brother recently came home from serving in Iraq. His unit, 162nd Bravo Company Oregon National Guard out of Corvallis was deployed for one year. In that year they did so much.
In the last couple years I have learned a lot about what’s really important in life, from my brother being gone. Most of my free time is spent with my fiancé Austin, along with family when I am not at the school. My mom and dad have always been so supportive of me. If it weren’t for them, my brother, and very supportive extended family I wouldn’t be who I am today.
I love my family, Austin, and the kids I take care of so very much. I look forward to seeing my kids every morning and I miss them after every weekend.
I feel very blessed to be a part of their lives.
