Kindergarten Teacher

  Hi, my name is Stephanie and I am the kindergarten teacher at The Children’s Hour Academy. I have been working with children for 15 years, 6 of which have been with The Children’s Hour. I realized my passion of working with children under the mentorship of one of my high school teachers. Ms. Limmer was the director for ‘L.A, Kids’ Pre-School on my high school campus in California. She taught me about leading groups of children and having fun doing it too. I learned about providing a safe and encouraging atmosphere for children to grow in. I was under her wing for 3 years in high school. After graduating high school in 1992 I attended Long Beach City College for 2 years, working towards my certificate in Early Childhood Education. In 1994 my husband, David and I moved to Oregon as this is where my family had all settled. My next stop along the way was Portland Community College which is where I first learned of The Children’s Hour Academy. I met this fabulous woman named Patty in one of my Early Childhood Education classes. Yes, Patty, the owner of The Children’s Hour! At this same time I was working at a local childcare center with the toddlers, 16 of them as a matter of fact. Working and going to school and meeting Patty in the process, really got the ball rolling in my career. It wasn’t too long after meeting Patty I was hired on at CHA. Initially I worked with her partner at the time, Carole, when they had CHA in their homes. When Patty found the Boones Ferry site we were all very anxious to make our school all that we vision it to be. It’s been a few years now and with a lot of prayer, personal growth and perseverance we are now expanding and reaching out to so many more families and children in our community. It has continued to be a wonderful experience working at CHA and I look forward to many more years to come.
  On a personal side of me, like I said before I am married to David, for 10 years now. We have an active and charming little man named Lucas who is 4 years old. Our dog Trucker acts like our 2nd child at home, as he is a very busy fox hound! We like to spend our family time playing ball in the yard, watching baseball, collecting baseball artifacts, and going to ball games.  One of our most favorite vacations as a family was when we went to Cooperstown New York to visit the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Within the past year I became a Christian and David more recently invited Christ into his life as well. We pray each day that Lucas too has made that same decision in his heart. Our family looks forward to attending church on Sundays as it has become our main focus in our lives. We feel so blessed to be able to share the love of the Lord with our son, extended family and friends.
   One of the things we pride ourselves on at CHA is to provide an environment that makes the children and their families feel at home. When you walk into my classroom you will see plants, warm lighting and a place for each child to call their own. Each child has the opportunity to be ‘Star of the Week’ in kindergarten, a special sharing time. With every child ready to learn at their own pace and ability I like to encourage the children to try their best and never give up. Helping the children to see their full potential through team work, reading, math, social studies and bible time helps to reach the whole child. I am energetic with the children; I keep them engaged through dramatic play, and hands on learning. I also make sure to show them that it’s ok for the teacher to have fun and laugh along with them. I even come equipped with a clown’s nose for those days when things just don’t seem to be going right. I strive in an environment that has the lines of communication open between me and the parents. I like to keep the parents informed on a daily basis and encourage parents to keep me informed of their family life as well. All of these things being important when raising our future.
  So come on in to Kindergarten some time and see us engaged, focused and learning in all we do. Maybe we could recite for you one of bible verses we memorized in bible time! Thank you.
