First Grade Teacher

  I’m known around The Children’s Hour as Ms. Kim and sometimes, more affectionately, as “Dory” the Blue Fish. I’m forever loosing my chalk!! I have been teaching at our school for 6 years and I must say this is what God intended for me to do. Each family He brings to my classroom teaches me and stretches me in ways I never would have imagined.
   The highlight of my day is watching the “ahaa” moments appear when least expected and when extraordinary results come of ordinary circumstances. I love quietly listening to comments the kids make about a lesson I wasn’t sure was being heard.
   I graduated from Apple Valley High School in California. I earned my BA in Secondary English Education from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona and I completed my CDA Degree in Las Vegas, Nevada but the best education I have ever received is from the kids themselves.
  I teach them about reading, writing in cursive, adding, subtracting, fractions, and measurements. We recite the Pledge of Allegiance, memorize verses out of the Bible, practice phonics, language skills, and create stories in our journals and writing workshop. They teach me love, patience, trust, faith, creativeness, self-control, forgiveness, the importance of a hug, a band-aid, and a listening ear. They always continue to challenge me to change and grow.
  We catch snakes when it gets warm, stand on the table on occasion, and dance with balloons. We ask questions, search for answers, and we love to go on field trips to anywhere!!!
  When I’m not teaching I love to write poetry, spend time at the beach, and relax with my friends over Decaf Raspberry Mocha…with whip!
   I have a wonderful husband of almost 12 years and two very precious gifts from God…Collin, who is almost 10 and Jessica, who is nearly three. Both of my children have attended school here and the love, care, and influence of each teacher has enriched their lives and given them an amazing foundation on their incredible journey of life. I wouldn’t want to teach anywhere else!
